An image display device including a communication unit configured to wirelessly or wiredly communicate with external devices; a display unit configured to display media content being reproduced on the image display device; and a controller configured to distinguish at least one external device that can be controlled to generate an effect of stimulating senses of a user watching the reproduced media content, and to control the distinguished external device to generate the effect of stimulating the senses of the user in accordance with effects occurring on the displayed media content.
