<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a negative electrode for a lithium ion secondary battery having characteristics such as stable output and capacity, and a lithium ion secondary battery having characteristics such as stable output and capacity. <P>SOLUTION: A negative electrode for a lithium ion secondary battery in accordance with an embodiment of the present invention includes a laminate of a negative electrode material layer mainly composed of a carbon material, and a negative electrode collector, and the critical radius of curvature of the negative electrode is equal to or smaller than 15 mm when the negative electrode material layer is in the dry state.
