<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an electrochemical element excellent in reliability, and safety under high-temperature conditions, a separator capable of being a component of the electrochemical element, and a method for manufacturing the same. <P>SOLUTION: The method for manufacturing a separator for an electrochemical element of the present invention comprises the steps of: applying a composition for separator formation containing a monomer or an oligomer, and a solvent, to a substrate; forming a resin (A) which has a cross-linked structure by irradiating the coating formed in the previous step with energy rays; and forming pores by drying the coating after the resin (A) formation. The solvent in the composition for separator formation is a solvent (a) with a solubility parameter (SP value) equal to or greater than 8.1 and less than 8.9, or a combination of a solvent (b) with an SP value equal to or greater than 7 and equal to or less than 8, and a solvent (c) with an SP value equal to or greater than 8.9 and equal to or less than 9.9. The separator for an electrochemical element of the present invention is manufactured by the manufacturing method of the present invention.
