<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image display apparatus control method, the image display apparatus, etc. capable of accurately grasping a time when a user starts utilization. <P>SOLUTION: A projector 100 as the image display apparatus comprises a real-time clock unit 132 with a timer function and determines, after power is supplied, whether this is the first start of the projector 100. If determining the start as the first start, the projector 100 displays a time setting screen for setting a time for the real-time clock unit 132. Thereafter, after displaying the time setting screen, if a user gives an instruction to set a time, the projector 100 sets a time after setting, to the real-time clock unit 132.
