PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a driving support system capable of continuously urging safe driving to a driver by keeping the strong empathy of the driver with characters and a driving support program.

SOLUTION: The driving support system 4 is provided with a plurality of display modes. In a character mode, information for supporting the driving is provided to the driver by displaying the characters on a display part 48 to enable the characters to have communication with the driver. The driving support system 4 determines the representation form of the communication according to the degree of intimacy specified on the basis of the driving condition of a vehicle. The driving support system 4 outputs character information with the representation form determined on the basis of the intimacy so as to change the intimacy of the characters to a user according to the driving condition of the user.
