A drainage device (10) has an annular engaging body (20) integral with a peripheral flange (40). The body (20) is in the form of a hollow cylinder having on an outer surface (28) of which there is provided at least one rib (30) extending radially outwardly therefrom to allow the body (20) to engage the can in a releasable snap fit engagement with the rim of the paint can with which the drainage device (10) is intended to be used.
