Abstract The use of a volatile environmental pollutants decreasing working fluid, for decreasing an amount of environmental pollutants present in a fat or oil, being edible or for use in cosmetics, in at least one stripping processing step, the working fluid comprising at least one of a fatty acid ester and a fatty acid amide, or any combination thereof, wherein the stripping processing step is carried out at temperatures in the interval of 150-2700C. The environmental pollutants may be selected from brominated flame retardants.
