[Also in Divisions B8 and F2] A bearing assembly comprises a shaft 1, e.g. a lead screw or worm conveyer, journalled in two axial-thrust ball bearings 12 in a shaft bearing plate 4, the plate being movable along supporting bolts 8 which extend between stationary thrust plates 7 and being spring- loaded on at least one side against at least one of the thrust plates and carrying an actuator to actuate a control switch which stops or reverses the shaft when the shaft is axially overloaded. In the embodiment of Fig. 1 (not shown) two fingers 6 operate respective levers 13 of switches 3 when the shaft, bearings and plate are axially displaced against the force of respective springs 5. Alternatively a finger 6A operates levers 13A on a single switch 3A. The switches are adjustably secured on a slideway. If overload is in one axial direction only, as in Fig. 2 (not shown), strips are required on one side only, and one switch 3 or a switch 3A with one lever only, required. |
