An apparatus 10 for testing planks, such as scaffold boards, is disclosed. It comprises a test platform 16, a testing head 26, a printer 50 and a controller. The controller causes the testing head to perform at least one test on a plank, and causes the printer to selectably print data on said plank depending on the results of the test. The test platform may support the plank at two spaced apart locations 18, 20, and the testing head may engage the plank at a point preferably mid-way between the two locations. The head preferably applies a bending force to the plank, and parameters, such as the applied force, or the deflection of the plank, may be measured. Conveyors 36, 38, which may be foldable, may be present to convey the plank to or from the test platform. The apparatus is preferably portable or mobile, and may include lockable wheels 44 to enable transport. The apparatus may include one or more adjustable feet 45, in order to adjust the height, and level the apparatus.
