摘要 The ability of reinforcing elements, e.g. tire cords, made from polyester resins to adhere to rubbery compositions is improved by treating them with a first adhesive composition comprising a dispersion of an epoxy resin, the components of a heat-convertible phenol/aldehyde resin and a diene rubber latex to deposit on them 0.5-10% by weight solids of the epoxy resin and 1-20% by weight solids of the phenol/aldehyde/diene rubber latex composition in which the ratio by weight of the phenol/aldehyde resin to diene rubber latex ranges from 1/10 to 2,5/10 , heating the adhesive composition at a temperature insufficient to cause a substantial reaction of the components of the adhesive composition but at a temperature sufficient to solidify the adhesive composition, the components remaining substantially unreacted because of the absence of an epoxy curing agent, applying a second adhesive composition comprising a heat-convertible phenol aldehyde resin and a diene rubber latex chemically reactive with the chemically reactive components of the first adhesive composition and then heating at a temperature of 350 DEG -410 DEG F. for 2-5 minutes to convert the components of both adhesive compositions to a homogeneous resinous mass. After the application of the first adhesive composition the heating may be carried out at a temperature below 100 DEG F. The diene rubber latex may be one prepared by the polymerization of butadiene-1, 3, 2-methyl-butadiene-1, 3, 2, 3-dimethylbutadiene-1, 3, pentadiene-1, 3 or 2-chlorobutadiene-1, 3 with vinyl pyridine, styrene, vinyl toluene, alpha methyl styrene, vinyl naphthalene, acrylic acid, methyl acrylate, methyl methacrylate, acrylonitrile, methacrylonitrile or methacrylamide. The epoxy resin may be the reaction product of glycerol and epichlorhydrin. Treated cords may be used to reinforce tires by compounding them with rubber containing anti-oxidanto, loading agents, reinforcing agents, accelerators and vulcanizing agents and vulcanizing at temperature of from above 200 DEG F. up to 350 DEG F. for 5-60 minutes.
