The detector has an opaque flat covering element (10) with mass density of 9 milligram per centimeter square and serving as an entrance window for radiation (S) to be measured. Thickness of a flat scintillator (20) i.e. organic scintillator, is less than 0.05 mm. A detection element (40) e.g. photomultiplier or photodiode, is provided for visible light, and the scintillator is covered by the covering element. A light guide (30) is coupled with the scintillator and the detection element. Light is generated in the scintillator and passed into the detection element.
