[Also in Division H3] The Q factor of a high-frequency inductor comprising the spaced coil 3 and adjustable ferromagnetic core 5 may be varied, without varying the inductance, by moving the shortcircuited turn or turns 9 so as to vary its coupling with the coil. According to the invention the short-circuited turn is non-ferromagnetic and has a Q factor not greater than unity. It is shown by analysis of the effective impedance of the coil that the inductance is almost independent of the coupling factor, but the effective resistance is not. The turn 9 may be a metal layer deposited on its support 7. The inductor may be used in bridged T filters for intermediate frequency amplifiers.
