Preparing hydroconversion catalyst containing a modified Y zeolite, comprises: treating the modified Y zeolite by suspending the modified Y zeolite in a basic pH solution; stopping the treatment step by neutralization of the solution containing the modified Y zeolite with an acid containing solution; filtering the neutralized solution, washing the recovered solid modified Y zeolite; drying and optionally calcining the solid modified Y zeolite; contacting the solid modified Y zeolite in an ion exchange solution under stirring; and optionally vaporizing and/or calcining the modified Y zeolite. An independent claim is included for hydroconverting a hydrocarbon charge, where the charge to be treated is placed in contacting with the obtained catalyst.
