A method for diagnosing the occupational dust-associated pathology of the bronchopulmonary system comprises the assessment of cytokine profile. In the workers of the metal melting industry, the interleukins IL-1&bgr;, IL-4, IL-8, TNF-α and IFN-γ are assayed with immunoenzyme techniques using the corresponding assay kits. When IL-1&bgr; and TNF-α are reduced by 59 % and 39 % correspondingly as compared with control values while IL-4, IL-8, and IFN-γ are increased by 260 %, 101 % and 12 % correspondingly as compared with control values, pneumoconiosis is diagnosed. When IL-1&bgr; is reduced by 77 % while IL-4, IL-8, IFN-γ, and TNF-α are increased by 19 %, 186 %, 135 % and 69 % correspondingly as compared with control values, the dust-associated bronchitis is diagnosed. |
