<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a liquid crystal device capable of enhancing contrast by disposing phase difference compensation elements in a direction corresponding to a pretilt direction of liquid crystal molecules, and further to provide a projection type display device. <P>SOLUTION: In a liquid crystal device 3G of a projection type display device, an O plate 54 and a C plate 53 are disposed between a liquid crystal panel 11G and a wire grid polarization beam splitter 10. A tilting direction of liquid crystal molecules 33B as viewed from an element substrate 32 side and a tilting direction of columns of the O plate 54 as viewed from a liquid crystal panel 11G side are reverse to each other with a transmission axis of the wire grid polarization beam splitter 10 interposed therebetween, and an angle therebetween is 135°. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2013,JPO&INPIT |
