Ribbed separators are made when a cellulose fibre web 2 is fed into a bath 8 of phenolformaldehyde resin and the impregnated web is fed between pressure rollers 10 which are shaped so as to exert a greater pressure over the central area of the web than at its side edges so that a larger amount of the resin is squeezed from the central portion leaving a higher concentration of resin at the side portions. A ribbing roller 20 then deforms the web into a number of longitudinally extending ribs before the resin is cured in an oven 28 and cut into appropriate length sections by a guillotine 30 to form the ribbed separators. |
