PURPOSE: An electrolyzed reduced water apparatus and a method for controlling the same are provided to prevent the decline of life span in first and second cation exchange layers and an ion-exchange container. CONSTITUTION: An electrolyzed reduced water apparatus comprises a water purifying unit(110), an electrolyzed reduced water generating unit(120), a reservoir part(130), a power supply unit(140), a water quality monitoring part and a control unit. The electrolyzed reduced water generating unit generates electrolyzed reduced water with hydrogen by electrolyzing the water through the first and second electrodes. The control unit determines when to change the polarity of the first and second electrodes based on water quality. If the control unit determines that the polarity of the first and second electrodes changes, the control unit controls the operation of the power supply unit.
