A knotter assembly capable of tying a fisherman's knot or a weaver's knot comprises a frame 11, 12 on which the parts of the knotter assembly are assembled as a unit there being for tying a fisherman's knot an entry plate 38 provided with yarn guide slots and a back plate 27, Fig. 2, provided with yarn separator slots, a pair of left and right hand (relative to the entry plate) rotary tying heads 19 between the plates, means for rotating the heads and means on the heads for cutting surplus yarn and holding the yarn ends. There is also a first set of crossers 33, 34 adjacent the entry plate for positioning the yarn ends adjacent the tying heads and a stripper 55 for pulling the yarn embryo knot convolutions off the heads, thereby tightening the knot convolutions and completing the knot. When it is desired to tie a weaver's knot the back plate 27 is replaced by a back plate identical with the entry plate, there being a second set of crossers associated with the replacement back plate to operate in synchronism with the first set of crossers. The left hand' tying head is also replaced by a similar tying head of opposite hand so positioned axially as to be operative only to cut the yarn end. The other tying head is operative to form the embryo knot convolutions and to cut and retain the yarn end. The stripper again functions in a manner such as to pull the embryo knot convolutions off the operative tying head whereby the convolutions are tightened and the knot completed.</p> |
