1,039,144. Converter chimneys. G. K. DE LA SAULX, and N. SALIER. Feb. 25, 1964 [Nov. 4, 1963], No. 7846/64. Heading F4J. A water-cooled converter chimney 1, having an upper vertical portion and a lower cranked portion, comprises inner and outer spaced walls 2 and 3 defining a water jacket there between, rigid wall connecting stays 12a and 12b, Fig. 2 (not shown), at the top and bottom of said vertical chimney portion, outer wall expansion elements 3a, and axially-extending radial fins 2b and 3b, Fig. 3 (not shown), on the inner and outer walls respectively, said fins being provided with longitudinally-extending slots through which annular rods 15 pass, thereby restricting relative radial movement of the walls whilst permitting relative axial expansion movement therebetween. A header tank 4, incorporating vapour-separating cyclones 9, circulates water to the lower portion of the chimney through pipes 8. Flue gases 10 flow through side apertures 6 to a collector space 7 below the tank and are discharged to a dust separator, not shown.
|
