<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To increase strength without causing deterioration in aesthetic appearance in a chair in which a backrest is arranged on the front surfaces of back supports, and is secured with screws. <P>SOLUTION: A back shell plate is divided into a lower back shell plate 9 and an upper back shell plate 10. The lower back shell plate 9 is integrally connected to a seat shell plate 8 through a hinge part 14. A back frame 7 connected to a base 6 has right and left back column supports 29, and the upper back shell plate 10 is fixed to the back column supports 29 with screws 31 inserted into the upper ends of the back column supports 29 from the back. A reinforcing plate 33 being horizontally elongated is arranged on the front surface of the upper back shell plate 10, and the screws 31 are threaded into the reinforcing plate 33.
