摘要 <P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an electro-optical device that allows trap efficiency of ionic impurities to be enhanced without impairing manufacturability. <P>SOLUTION: An electro-optical device includes: a first substrate and a second substrate that are disposed opposite to each other and hold an electro-optical material layer therebetween; a sealing material for bonding the first substrate and the second substrate together; a pixel region in which a plurality of pixels are arranged; and an ion trap part that is provided with electrodes and is installed in a peripheral region between the pixel region and the sealing material. In the electro-optical device, the ion trap part has a first trap electrode to which an AC voltage is applied and a second trap electrode to which a reference potential of the AC voltage is input. In application of the AC voltage, the ion trap part is set such that, at the time of voltage application of a positive polarity and at the time of voltage application of a negative polarity, an amount of current flowing through the electro-optical material layer is largely different from that flowing through the pixel region. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2013,JPO&INPIT
