<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical path reflection type zoom lens having a high variable power ratio, being small-sized and with excellent optical performance. <P>SOLUTION: The zoom lens includes a first positive lens group, a first negative lens group, and a group of positive rear lens groups. The group of rear lens groups includes a second positive lens group, a second negative lens group, a third positive lens group, and a brightness diaphragm. In the zoom lens, when varying power, a distance from the first positive lens group to the first negative lens group is increased, a distance from the first negative lens group to the second positive lens group is decreased, a distance from the second positive lens group to the second negative lens group and a distance from the second negative lens group to the third positive lens group are changed. The first positive lens group includes a negative lens sub group and a positive lens sub group and the total number of lens sub groups is two. The first negative lens group includes a negative lens sub group and a positive lens sub group, the total number of lens sub groups in the first negative lens group is two, and all lenses of the lens sub group in the first negative lens group are single lenses.
