The invention comprises dyes of the general formula wherein R is the residue of a diazo component which may contain an azo group and which contains at least one carboxylic or sulphonic acid group; X is an alkyl group having up to 4 carbon atoms, a carboxyl, carboxylic ester or carboxy-amide group or an aryl group; Y is an aliphatic fibre reactive acyl residue and n is 0 or a positive integer not greater than 7. They are prepared by reacting the corresponding unsubstituted pyrazolone dye with an Nmethylol aliphatic acid amide in which the acyl residue is fibre reactive or with a Mannich ionforming N-methyl derivative of an aliphatic acid amide in presence of an acidic condensing or dehydrating agent, e.g. hydrochloric acid, zinc chloride, phosphoric anhydride, acetic anhydride phosphoric acid, aluminium chloridepyridine mixture and preferably oleum which may act as a solvent. Mannich ion forming derivatives specified are the corresponding methylol esters of inorganic and organic acids, chloromethylamides and autocondensation products of the N-methylol acid amides. Instead of the methylol compounds a mixture of formaldehyde and the unsubstituted acid amide may be used. In a modification the dyes are prepared by reacting an acid amide, a dihalogenated dimethyl ether and an appropriate dyestuff in concentrated sulphuric acid. The examples describe "inter alia" the preparation of disazo dyes containing two carboxyamidomethyl groups. The dyes are used to dye cotton and nitrogen-containing fibrous materials e.g. wool, leather, silk, polyamides and polyurethanes in yellow-orange shades.ALSO:Cotton and nitrogen containing fibres, e.g. wool, silk, leather, polyamides and polyurethane are dyed in yellow-orange shades using dyes of the general formula wherein R is the residue of a diazo component which may contain an azo group and which contains at least one carboxylic or sulphonic acid group; X is an alkyl having up to 4 carbon atoms, a carboxyl, carboxylic ester or carboxyamide group or an aryl group; Y is an aliphatic fibre reactive acyl residue and n is O or an integer not greater than 7.
