<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus that reduces the amount of information processing required for determining an image size, reduces the time for determining an image size, and realizes a reduction in costs. <P>SOLUTION: An image forming apparatus includes: a histogram generating unit 11 that generates a plurality of density histograms by adding each pixel density of a plurality of main scanning lines in a document in a sub-scanning direction; and a document size determining unit 12 that determines an image size on the basis of the generated plurality of density histograms.
