A storeroom for foodstuffs comprises a conventional, e.g. brick built, main room within which is sited an inner room at least some of the walls of which are of substantially gas impermeable, e.g. plastics, material and which inner room has atmosphere control means. In one embodiment, Fig. 1, the inner room forms a tent with a flexible plastics ceiling 17, side walls 16 and floor sheet 18 hermetically welded together, the tent being non-yieldingly suspended at 19 and yieldingly suspended at 20 from the ceiling of the main room. The main room is thermally insulated and is provided with air cooling means 27 and a CO 2 absorption device 24 which device controls the atmosphere within the tent. In another embodiment, Fig. 6 (not shown), only one of the walls is of flexible material and is rollable upwards to provide access to the store. The air cooling means may be installed within the inner room. The size and flexibility of the flexible sheet or sheets is such as to accommodate any normal variations in the outside atmospheric pressure after the inner room has been sealed off.</p> |
