<p>The piston (1) has a piston base part (2) on a combustion chamber surface (4) comprising two mating faces (8a, 9a). The first mating face is formed at a free end of an annular rib (6). The second mating face is radially present inward in the piston. A piston upper part (3) is in annular shape. The piston base part is firmly connected to the piston upper part at the mating faces. The piston upper part comprises a surface section between two rotating mating faces in such a way that a cooling passage (10) is formed. The piston base part is made of austenitic steel and the piston upper part is made of ferritic steel. An independent claim is also included for a method for manufacturing a cooling passage piston.</p>
