Propylene oxide contaminated with methyl1 formate is purified by scrubbing the contaminated oxide in countercurrent with not substantially less than six times the amount by volume of liquid benzene, referred to the amount of liquid propylene oxide to be purified, so as to separate the propylene oxide, and subjecting the resulting solution of propylene oxide in benzene to fractional distillation to separate pure propylene oxide, the methyl formate vapours undissolved in the benzene being removed and liquified by cooling. |
