PURPOSE: A portable terminal and a control method thereof are provided to control the operation of three-dimensional content displayed on the current screen by enabling a user to use the proximity depth of a proximity touch. CONSTITUTION: A touch screen displays three-dimensional content. A proximity sensor(141) senses the proximity depth of a proximity touch inputted to the three-dimensional content. A control unit(180) controls the operation of the three-dimensional content according to the sensed proximity depth. The three-dimensional content is a three-dimensional virtual keypad including keys in which a plurality of characters is assigned. The control unit displays the characters assigned to the specific key according to the proximity depth of the proximity touch inputted on a specific key of the three-dimensional virtual keypad.
