[Also in Division F2] A metering valve 101 for delivering measured quantities of liquid, such as oil in a pressure lubricating system, comprises a, housing 102 having an inlet 114 and an outlet 132, and an expandable sleeve 115 normally contracted into contact with a ball valve 116 and a separate diaphragm 117 dividing the housing into first and second chambers 138 and 122 respectively connected by a passageway 126 in the diaphragm. The open upper end of the chamber 112 is covered by the resilient diaphragm 117 which is clamped to the housing 101 by a transparent cover 118. In operation, when pressurized liquid, e.g. Oil is supplied from a container 1 under the action of a pump piston 11 and is fed via a passage 109 to the inlet 114 the ball valve is forced against a seat on the diaphragm, thereby closing the passageway 126, the sleeve then expanding so as to permit the flow of liquid to act on the diaphragm and fill the chamber 138, liquid on the other side of the diaphragm being forced through the outlet 132. Upon a reduction in pressure in the inlet, the ball moves away from the seat and thereby allows the liquid in the chamber 138 to pass via the port 126 and passages 129, 135, to the outlet. Various sized discs 137 may be fitted above the diaphragm in order to limit the movement of the latter and so alter the capacity of the chamber 138.</p> |
