PURPOSE: A self-fluorescent polymeric nanocomposite, a contrast composition containing the same, and a method for manufacturing the same are provided to minimize particle instability and toxicity in vivo. CONSTITUTION: A self-fluorescent polymeric nanocomposite has a self-fluorescent property by crosslinking of a polymeric nanocomposite with a crosslinking agent containing an aldehyde group. The polymeric nanocomposite is prepared by ion bonding of a cationic polymer and an anionic polymer. The anionic polymer is selected from the group consisting of polyglutamic acid, polyacrylic acid, alginate, carrageenan, hyaluronic acid, poly[styrene sulfonate, carboxymethylcellulose, cellulose sulfate, dextran sulfate, heparin], heparin sulfate, poly[methylene-co-guanidine], condroitin sulfate, and a mixture thereof.
