The invention relates to a cooking unit (4) with a heating surface (10) for warming up food. In the edge region (12) of the heating surface (10), means (32) are arranged, and above the heating surface (10), an extraction device (18) is arranged. With these means (32), a first air flow (30) and a second air flow (34), located at a distance (36) above the first air flow (30), are provided, the first air flow (30) or the second air flow (34), respectively, being sucked off by means of the extraction device (18). Alternatively, the means (32) provide a first air flow (30), whose air speed is less than 6 m/s and which is sucked off by means of the extraction device (18).
