PURPOSE: A brake system for a vehicle and a control method thereof are provided to stably brake the vehicle by operating an electronic parking brake based on operation of a brake pedal in malfunction of a main brake system during driving. CONSTITUTION: A bake system(10) for a vehicle comprises wheel actuators(23a,23b), a first brake control device(20), a second brake control device(30), a parking brake(32), a wheel speed sensor(21), and a brake pedal position sensor(22). The wheel actuator is operated according to a control signal of the first brake control device and brakes front wheels(FR,FL). The first brake control device controls operation of the wheel actuator. The second brake control device is connected to the first brake control device and controls operation of the parking brake. The parking brake is controlled by the second brake control device and generates or removes a parking brake force at rear wheels(RR,RL). The wheel speed sensor senses rotation speed of driving wheels, and the brake pedal position sensor senses moving distance of the brake pedal. The second brake control device controls operation of an electronic parking brake based on the moving distance of the brake pedal when the first brake control device is malfunction.
