Disclosed is a liquid crystal alignment agent for obtaining a liquid crystal alignment film which exhibits satisfactory liquid crystal alignment properties irrespective of the exposure dose of polarised ultraviolet light, and which induces a uniform, satisfactory photo-alignment process even when the exposure dose varies. The liquid crystal alignment agent contains component (A) and component (B). Component (A): at least one type of compound selected from a group comprising polyamic acid esters having a repeating unit represented by general formula (1), and imide compounds of said polyamic acid esters. Component (B): a polyamic acid obtained from a tetracarboxylic dianhydride and a diamine. (In general formula (1), Y represents a divalent organic group, R1 represents a C1-5 alkyl group, R2 - R5 independently represent hydrogen atoms, halogen atoms or C1-20 hydrocarbon groups, and can be the same or different.) |
