A free standing safety sign is used to form a barrier in a kitchen doorway. The sign bears a warning that conveys the imperative not to leave cooking unattended and is intended to guard against fire. The sign is formed by a number of hinged panels of similar shape and size joined permanently or semi-permanently together at the top or side, to create a self-balancing barrier. The panels are hingedly connected, e.g. at their upper ends, by at least one flexible elongate element that may be tied or otherwise formed into a loop. The sign is self-supporting, light-weight and easily mobile. In particular the sign is in the form of an A-frame easel type sign. The sign may be formed from plastic, wood, bamboo, wicker, etc. The sign may incorporate an alarm clock (Fig. 25). |
