A rotary blade assembly 11, such as for a wind or water turbine, has multiple axes of rotation, such as to allow blade rotation about one transverse axis 12 in conjunction with blade rotation about another orthogonal upright axis 14. The rotational modes may be coupled through mutual interaction with an impacting fluid flow 20. Multiple assemblies may be combined in stacked layers or as groups set at right angles to each other. In one arrangement bias weights are used to pre-dispose the blades to settle in certain orientations.
