Partition strips are fed forward on edge by a horizontal conveyer belt 19, and are guided and held upright by flexible cords trained around pairs of opposed spindles 22, 23 so that the strips are brought closer together before being discharged to a partition assembling machine. The inner strips are guided by pairs of cords 25, but in order that the outer strips may be guided without jamming, each such strip is first guided by a pair of inclined cords 48, and then by a pair of cords 47 which are less inclined to the centre line of the apparatus. Pairs of idler spindles 22 having multiple, vertically spaced grooves, Fig. 2 (not shown), are mounted at the hopper end of the apparatus, and powerdriven pairs of spindles 23, similarly grooved, are rotatably mounted at the discharge end of the belt 19, and two vertically spaced flexible cords 25 are mounted on the opposed inner pairs of spindles. In the case of the top and two bottom pairs of spindles, Fig. 1, pairs of cords 48 are mounted on the spindles 22 and intermediate spindles 44, Figs. 3, 5, 6 and 7 (not shown), and further pairs of cords 47 are mounted on the spindles 44 and 23. The intermediate spindles 44 are removably mounted in brackets 36 which are adjustably mounted on cross-bars 32. |
