PURPOSE: A light guide plate and a liquid crystal display device are provided to form a pattern or a groove inside the light guide plate, to prevent the occurrence of a hot spot fault or a visibility fault by improving the directivity of the light near the light guide plate, and to improve the directivity of the light in the inside, thereby improving the brightness of the whole light guide plate. CONSTITUTION: A light guide plate(113) comprises a main body which has a upper side and a lower side, and outputting the light coming from a light incident surface through the upper side by propagating inside. A liquid crystal display device has the following properties: formed on the upper side of the main body; comprised of the refraction means refracting the outputted light; formed in a location separated to a constant distance from the light incident surface and the refraction means not being formed near the light incident surface; and comprised of the light guide plate. The liquid crystal display device comprises a liquid crystal display device in which an image is indicated; the light source radiating light; and the refraction means which supplies the light coming from the light incident surface to a liquid crystal panel through the upper side by propagating in the inside, and refracting the outputted light on the upper side of an area separated in a constant distance from the light incident surface.
