The movable part includes a shoulder (11) bearing against a stop (12) of a cylinder head (2) of a thermal engine. The fixed part includes an end (10) for insertion within a section (3) of the cylinder head. The movable part includes a flange (14) through which the fixed part emerges, where the flange is formed orthogonally to a sliding axis (A1) of the movable part around the fixed part, and the sliding axis is an axis of symmetry of the end of the fixed part. An independent claim is also included for a method for application of the device for verifying the state of a snap ring inside a cylinder head of a thermal engine.
