The method involves performing identification of a vehicle (1) by an identification document (3) of the vehicle. A set of characteristics of particular model of the vehicle is extracted from a manufacturer database. The identification of the vehicle is performed by recognition of data of the identification document of the vehicle by a reading system (6). An image of the identification document is acquired by utilizing optical character recognition. Independent claims are also included for the following: (1) a method for checking a vehicle (2) a control device.
