When an image of four or more colours is displayed by multiple primary colours, by effectively utilising the colour reproduction regions of the multiple primary colours, image representation of high quality can be achieved. A colour conversion processing circuit of the display device sets the vertices of a coloured solid that displays the colour reproduction range by the N primary colours in three-dimensional colour space on a coloured solid of three primary colours. The totality of vertices of the three-colour coloured solid including the vertices that are thus set are divided into N (N-1) × 2 tetrahedra whose vertices are three adjacent vertices and the centre of gravity in the three-colour coloured solid. In a tetrahedron wherein gradations are included that are indicated by the input image signal, a vector value is calculated indicating the gradation by a vector directed from the centre of gravity towards the three adjacent vertices, and this is applied to the corresponding tetrahedron of the coloured solid representing the colour reproduction range achieved with the N primary colours. In this way, the gradations of the N primary colours in the coloured solid of N primary colours are calculated.
|
