A liquid crystal display device (1) is provided with: a thin film transistor (TFT) substrate (2), and a color filter (CF) substrate (3), which is positioned so as to face the TFT substrate (2), upon which a plurality of pixels (E) comprising a colored layer (28) and a black matrix (27) are arranged; a liquid crystal layer (4) disposed between the TFT substrate (2) and the CF substrate (3); and spacers (25) for regulating the thickness of the liquid crystal layer (4), said spacers being disposed between the TFT substrate (2) and the CF substrate (3). Moreover, the spacers (25) are disposed on a surface on the liquid crystal layer (4) side of the TFT substrate (2), and are positioned between adjacent pixels (E) in an area where the colored layer (28) is positioned.
