<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce a time required before the start of image reading. <P>SOLUTION: After a shading correction unit 52 performs shading correction of a readout image data obtained by reading a manuscript by a light receiving unit 18, and before a post-processing unit 53 performs image readout operation for performing a variety of image processing to output as an output image data, a manuscript size detection unit 54 performs manuscript size detection operation for detecting a manuscript size (length in a main scanning direction), so that a variety of settings in the readout operation are set. In the manuscript size detection operation, shading correction is executed using an acquired correction data already stored in a correction data storage 55.
