IMAGE READER AND IMAGE FORMING APPARATUS

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image reader capable of detecting the attachment of dust, etc. and the show-through of an image by using only a manuscript to be read first, and also effectively preventing deterioration of an image even with respect to the manuscript to be read first.

SOLUTION: An image reader includes: a background board; reading means for acquiring image data by reading one surface side and the other surface side of a manuscript carried onto the background board by carrying means while including show-through from the other surface side to the one surface side and show-through from the one surface side to the other surface side; detection means for detecting a dust candidate pixel from the image data of the image read through the reading means; and determination means for determining the presence/absence of dust that requires correction of image data on the basis of the detection result of the detection means.
