<p>The invention relates to a dispensing apparatus 1 and valve means for dispensing a disinfectant or fragrance into the water of a lavatory cistern. The apparatus comprises a sealed reservoir 10 for holding the disinfectant or fragrance, a reservoir outlet tube 24 connected to the reservoir at an upper region 18, a first valve means 30 for selectively dispensing a dose of the disinfectant or fragrance from the reservoir into the water, and a dosing tube 26 between the reservoir outlet tube and the valve means. The apparatus is operable when the reservoir holds the disinfectant or fragrance, and on raising the level of the cistern water relative to the reservoir so as to subject the reservoir and first valve means to increased hydrostatic pressure, a dose of the disinfectant or fragrance is dispensed into the dosing tube, via the reservoir outlet tube, to form a column of disinfectant or fragrance which acts on the valve means. Subsequent lowering of the level of the water relative to the apparatus reduces the hydrostatic pressure acting on the reservoir, and causes the valve means to open and deliver the disinfectant or fragrance into the water as the hydrostatic pressure acting on the valve means from the water decreases below a predetermined amount.</p> |
