PURPOSE: An image display device and an operation method are provided to set a first depth to a first 2D OSD(On Screen Display) among a plurality of 2D OSDs in a 3D mode, and to set a second depth to a second 2D OSD, thereby supplying different 3D effects to the OSDs. CONSTITUTION: A formatter of a control unit sets a first depth to a first 2D OSD on a 2D image, and sets a second depth to a second 2D OSD(S1110). The formatter converts the first 2D OSD into a first 3D OSD based on the first depth, and converts the second 2D OSD into a second 3D OSD based on the second depth(S1120). A display displays a 3D image which includes the first 3D OSD and the second 3D OSD(S1130).
