An object of the present invention is to provide a banknote handling apparatus and a method of controlling the banknote handling apparatus that make the display of complicated functions and configuration of a banknote handling apparatus easy for the operator to understand. A banknote handling apparatus 100 of the present invention includes an operation unit 103 that accepts an instruction from an operator, first and second display units 104, 105 that can display graphics, a storage unit 310 that stores first and second data 311,312 for display on the first and second display units, detecting part 303 that detects an occurrence of a predetermined event, and a control unit 300 that reads out first and second data 311, 312 stored in the storage unit 310 based on the content of the event, causes the first display unit 104 to display the first data 311, and causes the second display unit 105 to display the second data 312, when the detecting part 303 detects the occurrence of the predetermined event. |
