<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To properly shift into a low power consumption mode. <P>SOLUTION: An image forming apparatus 10 detects an ambient brightness at any time zone by an a brightness sensor 11g. The image forming apparatus 10 stores information indicative of the brightness level detected by the brightness sensor 11g. The image forming apparatus 10 determines a threshold as a reference for shifting into the low power consumption mode according to the information indicative of the stored brightness degree.
