Proton-conducting polymers (I) are new. Proton-conducting polymers of formula (((Y1-Z-Y1-D1) m-(O-E-O-D1) 1-m) n) (I) are new. m : 0.01-0.99; n : 10-1000; Y1 : chemical bond, O or S; D1, E : divalent linking group, preferably 1-10C alkylene, 2-10C alkenylene or 6-20C arylene (all optionally substituted), -SO 2-, or -C=O-; Z : substituted naphthyl moieties of formula (IIa); A : substituted phenyl moieties of formula (IIb) or substituted naphthyl moieties of formula (IIc); R1-R24 : H, -SO 3M, -PO 3M, -CO 2M, sulfonyl, 1-10C alkyl or 6-20C aryl (substituted by sulfonic acid, phosphate, carboxylic acid or sulfonyl); and M : H +>, Na +>or K +>. An independent claim is also included for an electrolyte membrane comprising (I).
