<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a zoom lens that has an optical system that is entirely reduced in size, has a high zoom ratio, and provides high optical performance over the entire zoom range. <P>SOLUTION: A zoom lens is configured as follows: a positive first lens group, a negative second lens group, a positive third lens group, and a rear group including one or more lens group are arranged in order from an object side to an image side; at a telephoto end against a wide angle end, an interval between the first lens group and the second lens group increases, an interval between the second lens and the third lens decreases, and an interval between the third lens group and the rear group changes; the first lens group has two positive lenses and one negative lens; the second lens group has a negative lens and a positive lens.
