[Also in Division G3] In the biological purification of sewage, by means of a surface aerator its depth of immersion is controlled to keep the sewage oxygen content constant by vertical adjustment of the aerator or of any number of discharge weirs, or both. As described an oxygen measuring facility I produces a signal which is used to actuate a stepping mechanism 4 which produces a signal indicative of the required position of a weir I; this causes a drive 6 to set a potentiometer. A second drive 7 actuates the weir and also a potentiometer which exhibits the actual position of the weir and is controlled by a synchro 8 to null the difference between the two potentiometers. The drive 6 may also act as pace-setter for drives 11, 12 of additional weirs II, III which are then all set at the same level.</p> |
